Developments are unfolding in parts of rural Damascus and Sweida following an attack by armed groups affiliated with the Damascus government on the neighborhoods of Sahnaya, Ashrafiyet Sahnaya, and Jaramana. The tension intensified after the circulation of an audio recording containing religious insults, which triggered a wave of sectarian strife, resulting in deaths and injuries.

In a statement, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria expressed its concern about the situation in Sahnaya and Jaramana, calling for de-escalation and an end to the violence. It urged the Damascus authorities to prevent a recurrence of the massacres and sectarian killings of civilians that previously took place on the Syrian coast.

The Autonomous Administration stressed the need to address the underlying causes of escalation and societal fragmentation in Syria. It called for the establishment of a pluralistic democratic system that represents all Syrians without exclusion, and for dialogue to be the path to resolving disputes and outstanding issues—while rejecting military options.

The DAA emphasized that military solutions have never proven effective in Syria's conflict, citing the experience of the former regime as an example.

It reiterated that more than ever, Syria needs a constitution and a government that guarantee and represent the rights of all its citizens, along with a comprehensive democratic solution that ensures the participation of all in the political process.
