DAA: international statements are insufficient without practical steps to prevent violations

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement regarding international positions on the attacks and siege imposed on the region.

The administration emphasized that the continuation of these attacks, despite announced ceasefires, requires the international community and its sponsoring parties to take serious and responsible actions, moving from mere statements to practical measures that ensure the protection of the population, halt the assaults, lift the siege, and guarantee unhindered humanitarian access.

The statement reads:

"We, at the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, have followed the U.S. European joint statement on the extension of the ceasefire in North and East Syria, which called for adherence to the truce, support for stability, the protection of humanitarian corridors, and the resumption of essential services, particularly in the city of Kobani.

While we welcome any effort aimed at ending violence and protecting civilians, we note that what is happening on the ground starkly contradicts the contents of this statement. Military attacks and violations of the ceasefire agreement continue by the transitional government in Damascus, in clear defiance of all international appeals, without any practical measures or deterrent actions to halt these violations.

Issuing statements without concrete steps to stop the attacks and violations against our people renders these statements inadequate, at a time when the suffocating siege on Kobani persists and relatively safe areas continue to face repeated attacks that threaten civilian lives and undermine stability.

The continuation of these attacks amid an announced ceasefire obliges the international community and its sponsors to adopt serious and responsible positions, moving from statements to practical measures that ensure the protection of our people, halt the assaults, lift the siege, and guarantee unhindered humanitarian access.

Finally, we extend our deepest respect and admiration to our people’s resistance and to our military forces, who continue to legitimately confront the attacks in defense of our land, dignity, and the security and stability of North and East Syria, affirming that our people’s will to persevere is stronger than all attempts at aggression and pressure."
