In a statement issued today by its Department of Foreign Relations, the DAA reiterated its adherence to Syria’s unity and its rejection of any initiatives that could lead to division. The statement read:“ The DAA affirms its steadfast commitment to Syria’s unity—land and people—and its categorical rejection of any projects or proposals that threaten its territorial integrity or seek to partition it.

The March 10 Agreement, and the subsequent meetings between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Syrian President, constituted an important milestone in laying the groundwork for constructive dialogue. These encounters took place in a positive atmosphere that reflected a genuine will to reach consensual solutions.

However, these atmospheres have yet to translate into tangible, practical steps on the ground, raising legitimate questions about the seriousness of the official institutions in Damascus in seizing this historic opportunity for a political settlement.

By contrast, the experience of North and East Syria has demonstrated the greatest commitment to national unity and stability, through the immense sacrifices made to liberate these regions—first from the former regime, and later in the face of one of the most brutal international terrorist networks—in defense of all Syrians. This has been matched by the ability to administer the affairs of millions and provide services without discrimination.

Labeling calls for partnership, decentralized governance, and national reconciliation as ‘separatist’ is a distortion of both truth and reality. Such mischaracterizations serve only to deepen divisions among Syrians instead of reinforcing their unity.

Likewise, framing the debate in terms of demographic ratios or seeking to fragment the components of North and East Syria is a misguided approach that endangers the very foundations of coexistence and undermines the prospects for rebuilding trust among Syrians.

We affirm that all specialized committees emanating from North and East Syria—including those concerned with constitutional, administrative, security, and service-related matters—remain fully prepared to commence their work as soon as Damascus designates an appropriate time.

In this context, the DAA is working to open border crossings, including the Qamishlo–Nusaybin crossing, as a constructive bridge between Syria and neighboring countries. This reflects our policy of openness and cooperation, not closure or exclusion.

We remind all parties that any realistic approach to resolving the Syrian crisis cannot bypass United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, which constitutes the internationally agreed framework for a Syrian-owned political process.

Accordingly, we reiterate our call to transform the National Conference into a comprehensive process that encompasses all Syrian forces and components, and serves as an inclusive platform to launch a serious path toward a democratic, decentralized Syria that reflects the aspirations of its people and preserves its unity.

We in DAA believe that inclusive and responsible dialogue is the only path to safeguarding Syria’s unity and securing its future, and that the genuine participation of all Syrian components in shaping the solution is the true guarantee for building a democratic, decentralized, and just state—one that respects pluralism and ensures rights for all its citizens.”
