On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, a German delegation led by Christian Klein, Head of the Consular and Legal Affairs Department at the German Federal Foreign Office, visited NE Syria. The visit was reported by the Media Office of the Department of Foreign Relations of the DAA.

The delegation was received by Gulistan Ali, Deputy Co-Chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, and Khaled Ibrahim, the member of the Administrative Board.

According to the media statement, the meeting addressed the general situation in Syria, recent rapid developments following the fall of the Assad regime, and the position of the DAA emphasizing dialogue as an urgent necessity and the sole viable path to resolving the Syrian crisis under the current circumstances.

The discussion also referenced a recent conference aimed at developing a unified Kurdish political vision that reflects collective will and proposes a realistic framework for a just resolution of the Kurdish issue in Syria as a decentralized democratic state.

The visiting delegation was further briefed on the latest progress in negotiations between the DAA and the Damascus government, including the formation of relevant committees, the Administration's stance on the constitutional declaration, and the political and economic support mechanisms extended to the region.

The meeting also highlighted the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the components of NE Syria in the defeat of one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations—ISIS. Both sides affirmed the importance of continued cooperation with the International Coalition to ensure the complete eradication of ISIS and to prevent the group from exploiting ongoing developments to reorganize.

Challenges related to the management of camps and shelters housing ISIS-affiliated families were also discussed, including the mechanisms adopted by the DAA to address these issues.

Christian Klein expressed his satisfaction with representing the German government in NE Syria and meeting with representatives of the DAA. He thanked the Administration for its effective camp management and acknowledged the efforts of organizations operating in the region.

Klein affirmed Germany’s continued support for the camps and the DAA, stating:

“We remain strongly committed to supporting stability and prosperity in the region and envision a better future for Syria as a whole.”

He added: “We had a constructive discussion with representatives of the DAA and look forward to a fruitful partnership with the region and Syria at large.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, a German woman and four children from families of ISIS mercenaries were officially handed over to the German delegation under a formal handover document.
