Today, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria region issued a statement regarding the fires that have broken out in Northern Kurdistan, their aftermath, and Turkey's approach to dealing with disasters. It reads:

"Fires have been ravaging vast areas of the Mardin and Diyarbakir regions for more than a day, with a clear lack of response from emergency teams and relevant Turkish authorities to intervene and attempt to extinguish the fires.

As the fires continue to devastate large areas, causing significant damage to people's properties, it is with great sorrow that we report there have been casualties and injuries. Additionally, substantial damage has occurred to animals and livestock, which has deeply saddened all who are observing the situation.

We, in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria region, affirm our complete solidarity with the families of the victims and those affected by this massive fire. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives due to the fire, and we hope a swift recovery to the injured. The silence and hesitation of the Turkish authorities in providing relief and humanitarian support is a politicization of their approach to these Kurdish areas and a clear perpetuation of the 'genocide' against our people in Bakur, Kurdistan. This approach, even in the face of natural disasters, and its use for political agendas, is an 'unethical' action and aligns entirely with the objectives of the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) policies of demographic change and the depopulation of areas, as is happening today in Turkish-occupied areas of Syria.

We hope for the safety of all residents and civilians in the fire-affected areas and hope that this ordeal passes with minimal losses.”
