Condemning Turkish occupation's attempts to purchase properties of Serekaniye

The council of the Serekaniye camp for forcibly displaced persons, located in the countryside of Hasaka city in the Jazera canton, issued a strongly worded statement to the public, condemning the ongoing violations perpetrated by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries, most notably attempts to purchase the properties and lands of Kurdish citizens forcibly displaced from their city.

This came during a gathering of dozens of camp residents and members of civil society organizations, carrying banners denouncing the Turkish occupation's policies of forced displacement and demographic change. The statement was read by Sanaa Ahmed Hussein, a member of the camp's Women's Council, in front of the camp administration tent.

The statement emphasized that the city of Serekaniye has been suffering under the Turkish occupation since October 9, 2019, amid the inaction of the international community. This has led to the displacement of more than 200,000 civilians, hundreds of casualties, and widespread violations, including kidnapping, killing, and financial extortion. It has also included the destruction of homes and holy sites, the burning and looting of property, and the implementation of demographic change projects aimed at obliterating the identity of the indigenous population.

The statement added that attempts to purchase real estate and land from forcibly displaced persons constitute a legal violation, aimed at altering the civilization and history of indigenous peoples, including Kurds, Syriacs, Assyrians, and Arabs. It warned that any sale or purchase under occupation conditions is not legally recognized.

The statement also noted the occupation's attempts to hang multiple flags inside civilian institutions in the occupied city, including the Turkish flag, a banner bearing the emblem of the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa, and the flag of Pakistan. It emphasized that Turkish intelligence runs these institutions through its mercenaries on the ground.

The statement concluded by affirming the forcibly displaced persons' rejection of Turkey's aggressive policies, calling on international institutions to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take immediate action to end the occupation. They emphasized that the continued occupation undermines any efforts to achieve stability and ensure the return of the displaced to their areas and homes.

In conclusion, the participants chanted slogans such as "No to violence and oppression, No to the sale of the property of the people of Serekaniye, No to the settlement of mercenary gangs in Serekaniye."
