Today, the Afrin and Shahba Canton Council issued a statement to the public condemning the demographic changes taking place in occupied Afrin.

The statement was read in Arabic by Najy Salama, a deputy in the Afrin and Shahba Canton Council, and in Kurdish by Rizgar Lolo, member of the Afrin and Shahba Canton Council, at Sardam Camp in the town of Al-Ahdath, with the participation of council members and dozens of displaced Afrin residents.

The statement declared: "The Turkish occupation is committing war crimes against the indigenous population in the occupied areas. The demographic changes are a crime, and the settlements established by organizations such as the Qatar and Kuwait Red Crescent and some Palestinian organizations to settle the families of mercenaries aim to undermine coexistence and cultural diversity in Kurdish areas and Syria in general."

The statement affirmed: "The Turkish occupation state is violating international law, specifically Articles 46-55 of the Hague Convention of 1907 and Articles 49-53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention."

The statement denounced the actions of the Turkish occupation and its supporting organizations in altering the demographics of Afrin and called on the "UN Security Council, human rights organizations, and the Damascus government to fulfill their duties concerning the crimes occurring there.”
