Committee of Serê Kaniyê IDPs calls to resolve security issues, reopen roads, improve services

Yesterday, Tuesday, a meeting was held in Hasakah city, bringing together Governor Nour al-Din Ahmed, the leadership of the Internal Security Forces, members of the presidential team tasked with following up on the implementation of the January 29 agreement, and representatives of the Committee of Serê Kaniyê IDPs, to discuss ways of creating appropriate conditions for the return of residents to their areas.

In a statement to ANHA agency regarding the content of the meeting, the head of public relations in the Committee of Serê Kaniyê IDPs, Jwan Eisso, said that the meeting focused on a set of priorities, most notably: “ensuring full security and stability in the area, clearing homes from unlawful occupants and returning them to their rightful owners, returning those who came from other provinces after 2019 to their original areas, in addition to securing basic services, involving both displaced persons and indigenous residents in the management of their areas, stopping demographic change and hate speech, and putting an end to acts of vandalism that affected the property of the displaced, while emphasizing continued coordination and communication between all parties.”

He added that work and coordination will continue until the situation is corrected and all demands are implemented, stressing that the committee will be ready to return once that is achieved.

He noted that the security issue was the main focus of the discussion, as the committee demanded resolving all security problems, reopening roads and removing checkpoints, expelling settlers, and improving service provision in the area.
