The co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, Leyla Karaman, said that Syrian women, and the region in general, face major challenges, stressing that the current phase requires an in-depth analysis of the political landscape in Syria and the Middle East.

This came during a speech she delivered at the opening of the semi-annual meeting of the Women's Office of the Syrian Democratic Council, held today in Raqqa. Karaman emphasized that "everyone is searching for true peace, not only in Syria, but throughout the Middle East." She added, "We need to carefully read the rapid developments and work to formulate policies consistent with the Syrian Democratic Council's vision, which is based on dialogue, stability, and national unity."

She emphasized that stability in Syria must be comprehensive politically, economically, and socially and not solely linked to borders. She noted that there are escalating media incitement campaigns targeting areas in northern and eastern Syria, which imposes significant responsibilities on women and political institutions.

Leyla Karaman emphasized the importance of Syrian unity and solidarity, saying, "We need to reorganize our political agenda in a way that is appropriate to the current situation. After the Sykes-Picot Agreement, there are attempts to reorganize the Middle East, and we must know who is winning and who is losing, and preserve the gains achieved, especially those achieved by Syrian women."

She also emphasized that the new Syrian constitution must result from the consensus of all Syrians, and that intra-Syrian dialogue is the cornerstone of rebuilding the state, calling for strengthening civil peace and building bridges of trust between the various components.

She added, "Women and youth are essential partners in rebuilding the new Syria. During the 14 years of war, women have been the most affected group and continue to face violence in all its forms. However, we have the capacity and competence to confront all challenges, provided we unify our efforts and visions."

Concluding her speech, Leyla Karaman expressed her solidarity with the people of the city of Sweida, which is witnessing security tensions. She called on the transitional government in Syria to open dialogue with all components and regions, including Sweida, Daraa, Damascus, and northern and eastern Syria. She emphasized that Syrian women must be at the forefront of those writing the "new page" of Syria's history.
