Civilian killed in armed assault on Internal Security Forces checkpoint in Deir ez-Zor

Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria issued the news that an armed assault by ISIS mercenary cells was conducted on one of their checkpoints in Deir ez-Zor, leaving a civilian dead.

The General Command of the Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria issued a statement today announcing that one of its checkpoints came under an armed attack. The statement read:

"A terrorist cell ambushed civilians who were passing by one of our forces' checkpoints in the town of Darnaj in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The cell shot directly at checkpoint members as they conducted their security duties to provide security and stability to the region.".

During the attack and firefight with our members, a civilian standing near the checkpoint was hit and killed by the injuries. Our troops returned fire at the points of fire and the attackers retreated.

We, the North and East Syria Internal Security Forces, strongly condemn this deplorable incident. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the victim. We confirm that the investigation continues to determine the conditions behind the incident and to pursue and hold accountable the group of assailants.
