In a message read during a press conference by a delegation from the Party of Equality and Peoples’ Democracy on February 27, following their meeting with him, leader Abdullah Ocalan called for peace and urged steps to build trust with the Turkish authorities and implement a ceasefire in the Medya Defense Zones.

The people of the region view leader's peace appeal as a recognition of the will of the people, a foundation for democracy, and a shift in political perspectives regarding armed conflict.

Medîna Muslim, a local resident, stated, "The leader’s message is a call for peace and a significant opportunity to create conditions for democratic transformation and mutual trust, paving the way for his release."

She added, "Armed confrontation no longer serves any party, making the leader’s call timely and essential."

Despite these peace calls and the willingness of the region’s people to implement them, attacks continue, especially in the Autonomous Administration areas of North and East Syria. Medîna urged Turkey to reciprocate this historic initiative by halting hostilities and contributing to peace.

For his part, citizen Qais Al-Dhiab stated, "Our people were forced to take up arms for self-defense, not out of a desire for war. We see the leader’s recent call as an opportunity to establish peace and end the burdensome wars."

He concluded by affirming, "The people of this region are naturally inclined toward peace, but if they feel threatened, they will defend their land with all their strength. Therefore, the other side should seize this opportunity presented by the leader’s latest call to establish peace, promote democracy, and foster peaceful coexistence across the region."
