Five-year-old Mohammed Ali Damhat Rashid died on Friday evening from a stray bullet wound in Hasaka city, just hours before he and his family were scheduled to return to Afrin as part of the fourth convoy of displaced people.

Local sources reported that the child was struck by a stray bullet in Hasaka following the release of a group of prisoners held by the Syrian Interim Government.

Mohammed was from the village of Midouno in the Rajo district of the Afrin countryside. He and his family were preparing to return to their village after years of displacement when the gunshot wound ended his life before they could depart for Afrin.

In a related incident, indiscriminate gunfire in Qamishlo city, also following the release of a group of prisoners held by the Syrian Interim Government, resulted in the death of one young man and injuries to seven other civilians.
