CENTCOM announces killing, capture of around 25 ISIS mercenaries in Syria

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed that its forces, in cooperation with partner forces, killed or captured approximately 25 ISIS mercenaries in Syria in the days following a large-scale strike carried out on December 19 as part of "Operation Eagle Eye."

CENTCOM stated that joint operations conducted between December 20 and 29 resulted in the deaths of at least seven ISIS mercenaries, while the remainder were captured across 11 field missions in various parts of Syria. Additionally, four ISIS weapons caches were destroyed.

These operations followed the launch of "Operation Eagle Eye" on December 19, during which U.S. and Jordanian forces targeted more than 70 ISIS positions using over 100 precision munitions.

Dozens of fighter jets and attack helicopters participated in the operation, alongside artillery strikes, destroying infrastructure and weapons sites of the group throughout central Syria.

U.S. Central Command commander, Admiral Brad Cooper, stated that the United States "will not relent," affirming the commitment to work with regional partners to eliminate the ISIS threat that endangers both U.S. and regional security.

Cooper added that ISIS mercenaries were involved in at least 11 plots or attacks targeting U.S. locations in 2025, noting that U.S. forces and partner forces conducted operations in Syria over the past 12 months that led to the capture of more than 300 militants and the deaths of over 20 others.

Cooper concluded by emphasizing that "continuing to pursue terrorist elements, dismantling ISIS networks, and working with partners to prevent the resurgence of the organization makes the United States, the region, and the world safer.
