Caesar's victims photos, reminder of regime's crimes and expose impunity

Syrians continue to face the effects of repression, amid human rights warnings of continued impunity and repeated crimes committed by security agencies affiliated with the transitional government in Syria.

In this context, Osama Othman, Executive Director of Caesar Files for Justice, wrote on his Facebook page: "Fourteen years after the revolution, the images of our victims in Assad's prisons, revealed by the Caesar Files, remain the moral hallmark of our revolution and an iconic blood memory that no one can dispute."

He added: "Nevertheless, our eyes and hearts continue to be shocked by scenes of killing and torture in security institutions that are supposed to protect human beings, not violate their dignity."

Othman continued, warning of the continued impunity: "Have you realized that when you issue an unconditional amnesty for the criminals of the former regime, you are establishing a dangerous precedent of impunity? Every security or military member is now certain that they are above accountability and protected by an authority that does not hold killers accountable but rather rewards them?"

He concluded by saying: "The lie of investigation committees will be of no use in patching up the culture of the dominant authority. Examine yourselves and behave in the presence of the Syrian citizen. There is no dignity for a state that humiliates its people, and no prestige for a state that does not respect the dignity of its citizens."
