In a final statement following its 12th congress, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announced the end of its armed struggle and the cessation of all activities carried out in its name, affirming its commitment to a new political path. The statement echoed widely across the region, the Middle East, and the world.

Pervin Buldan, a member of the Imrali delegation, spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the PKK’s congress decisions and said: “This is a historic development, the end of war and conflict in Turkey and the beginning of a democratic era. This marks the democratization of Turkey. The Kurdish people’s struggle for years must now be crowned with peace immediately.”

Buldan explained that everyone must take responsibility, saying: “The parties have made their decisions, and the PKK has also made its decision and entered a new phase. In this phase, responsibilities fall on everyone, and we must fulfill them. Of course, Mr. Ocalan must play his role in this phase, as his role is crucial in shaping democratic politics. Therefore, meetings must continue, Mr. Ocalan’s conditions must be improved, visits to Imrali must be permitted, and negotiations and talks with Mr. Ocalan on peace must take place.”

Buldan called on the parliament to play its role and emphasized the following: “Of course, the parliament must act. There are responsibilities on the part of the parliament in this regard, such as enacting and amending certain laws. I speak of this in the context of democratization because there is great injustice in Turkey. Major violations have occurred, affecting all segments of society. Undoubtedly, I am not without hope, but time is needed, and everyone must take responsibility in the short term.”

The Co-Chair of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party, Tuncer Bakirhan, responded to journalists’ questions following the PKK’s statement. Bakirhan said: “We congratulate Turkey on the congress. There is no longer any excuse preventing the resolution of the Kurdish issue and the building of a democratic Turkey. We hope this process will culminate in peace.”
