British delegation continues its tour in NE, Syria

Today, the British delegation completed its tour in the North and East of Syria region, visiting the Council of Religions and Beliefs and the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK).

The delegation includes parliamentarians and representatives of British political parties, including Councilor Martin Round, Mayor of Madison Township, Dr. Karen Constantine, Councilor and Deputy Chair of the Workers' Group at Kent County Council, Roger Lyons, former President of the Trade Union Congress, and Jason Kaplan, who holds a Master's degree in Literature and is the Director of Mid Kent Aviation.

The delegation began its tour by visiting the Syriac Catholic Church in the city of Qamishlo, where representatives of different beliefs, religions, and sects, as well as the components of the region from Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Alawites, Yazidis, and Zoroastrians, met.

The delegation expressed its happiness to visit the region, and said: "We are here to provide support and assistance to you, and to convey your voice to our people and government to guarantee the rights of sects and religions in the constitution."

the components, sects, and religions conveyed their concerns about the transitional authority in Damascus, and said: "The former regime is reproducing itself, we have doubts about the new authority that has changed its clothes and color, they cannot manage Syria and the components, religions, and beliefs in Syria cannot live freely."

"We were under a chauvinistic, fanatical, authoritarian rule that creates sedition to pit Kurds and Arabs against each other, the new regime is also fanatical and totalitarian and will constitute a tragedy for our people who want to live freely and democratically with all Syrians."

Representatives of the Alawites told the delegation that "the Baathist regime wanted to use the Alawites as fuel for it, but the truth is that they were living in difficult economic conditions and no economic project was accomplished on the coast. The Alawites have always suffered injustice and oppression, and today they are being subjected to injustices, as the prisons are crowded with thousands of kidnapped people."

Representatives of the Christians told the delegation that "Christians are an authentic and essential element in Syria, and they are being excluded, so we refuse to be used as a minority in Syria. We have rights, we have not harmed anyone, and we are advocates of peace and love."

Representatives of the Yazidi religion explained to the delegation that "the Yazidis have been subjected to genocidal policies throughout history, and in Syria they have been marginalized, they had no privacy in Syria, they did not even have a civil registry, they were considered Muslims, so we have concerns about the new transitional authority, we have a lawsuit against them, there are 2,600 Yazidi women kidnapped by them, and we have injustices that we were subjected to in Afrin and Serekaniye as a repetition of the Shengal scenario."

Father Youssef Asi, the pastor of the Syriac Catholic Church in the city of Qamishli, said: "The new authority is adopting the principle of revenge, whoever was with the previous state is a criminal and must be held accountable, they have been annoying us with dialogue to establish a constitution that suits them and impose a fait accompli, what have they liberated and we have tens of thousands in their detention centers in Idlib."

After listening to the components of the region and its sects, the delegation completed its tour by visiting the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK).

The British delegation was received by the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Berwin Yousef, Nasreddin Ibrahim, Secretary of the Kurdish Democratic Party (Party), and Mohammed Musa, Secretary of the Kurdish Left Party in Syria. The delegation explained the reasons and objectives of its visit to Rojava, and then the two parties continued the meeting closed to the media.
