"Bring back our sons!" Families of prisoners in Qamishlo affirm their sons' right to freedom

Families of prisoners held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and detained by the Syrian Interim Government since mid-January organized a protest today. The families and residents of Qamishlo gathered in front of the March 12 Martyrs Stadium before marching through the city's streets, expressing their anger and concern over the fate of their sons.

The protesters carried banners with poignant slogans, including "Return our prisoners," "Prisoners are a red line," "We demand the immediate release of prisoners," and "Freedom is the right of every prisoner," clearly emphasizing their commitment to their sons' cause and their rejection of their continued detention.

Upon reaching the UNHCR office in the Al-Siyahi neighborhood, the demonstration transformed into a sit-in. There, the protesters, holding pictures of their detained sons, chanted slogans such as "We want our prisoners... We want our fighters," a direct message to the international community and relevant authorities demanding urgent action.

The demands also included revealing the fate of journalist Eva Maria Majhalman and journalist Ahmed Boulad, given the lack of clear information about their situation.

Last March, the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, met with a committee representing the families of prisoners and missing persons. He emphasized that the issue of prisoners and missing persons from the recent battles is a central component of the integration process under the January 29 agreement, due to its direct and positive impact on implementation.

Abdi explained that he had been officially informed of the presence of 1,070 prisoners, both civilians and military personnel, in the prisons of the interim government. He stressed that this issue is a top priority and cannot be compromised under any circumstances. He added that intensive efforts are continuing to address this issue according to a specific timeline, indicating that the prisoners are expected to be returned to their families in the near future.

The issue of prisoners remains one of the most sensitive and complex, while families continue their struggle, hoping for the return of their loved ones and an end to their long suffering.
