Belgian parliamentarians slam Turkish crimes on NE Syria

 On Tuesday, a delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria met with two Belgian parliamentarians from the Vlaams Belang party in the Federal Parliament building in the capital, Brussels.

AANES's delegation included the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Europe, Dr.Abdul Karim Omar, and the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration’s representation in Belgium, Hozan Ahmed, while the meeting was attended by the Belgian side; Parliamentarians Aline Samin and Joris De Vriendt.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdul Karim Omar gave a brief overview of the experience of AANES, and said: “The official announcement of the Autonomous Administration was in 2014 with the participation of all components of NE Syria, and it has been working since its founding to build a democratic, decentralized Syria. in which human rights are respected.

He added, " It is also important that the new Syrian constitution guarantees the full rights of women, similar to their rights stipulated in the social contract of the Autonomous Administration, where women enjoy a forty percent representation in all its official institutions.”

Omar pointed to the role played by the Autonomous Administration in inflicting a military defeat on ISIS, and noted: “After making great sacrifices, SDF were able to defeat ISIS militarily in its last stronghold in the town of Baghouz in 2018, but military defeat does not mean the final elimination of this organization,because there are thousands are now receiving its extremist ideas and ideology, so in order to ensure that ISIS does not reappear again, there is an urgent need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in providing the necessary support and assistance to the Autonomous Administration."

Omar made the point clear that: “ As the concerned international authorities ignored our calls to continue cooperation to resolve the ISIS file, by establishing a special court of an international nature to try thousands of ISIS detainees in our regions, prompted The Autonomous Administration announced its intention to begin trials for some ISIS members who involved in committing war crimes against humanity."

Omar added: “The recent Turkish attacks deprived millions of citizens of basic services, and killed dozens of civilians."

Omar stressed, "The Turkish state, in conjunction with these daily attacks on the regions of NE Syria, continues its arbitrary policies and practices in the occupied areas, as it carries out demographic change operations by forcing the indigenous people in the occupied areas to displace from their lands, and settling others in their place, most of whom are mercenaries and their families, who were involved in extremist groups such as ISIS, Al-Nusra, and others.”

In turn, parliamentarian Aline Samin pointed out that: “Everyone knows that SDF defeated ISIS mercenaries on this basis we  confirm our support and assistance to AANES. We also urge the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and cooperate with AANES to prevent the return of terrorism, and maintaining the security and stability in AANES regions.”

Samin added: “We call on all countries concerned, especially Western countries, to stand by the Autonomous Administration in its efforts to establish an international court to try ISIS, and recognize it politically.”

The Belgian parliamentarian stated that: “Turkey’s targeting of infrastructure is a blatant violation of international laws, but despite that, there is a suspicious international inaction which encourages  Ankara to pursue a policy of war.”
