Barsoum: Autonomous Administration is the most suitable model for Syria

In an interview with ANHA agency, Barsoum addressed the recent actions of HTS, noting that their administration has effectively formed a single-colored government that exclusively serves the interests of HTS. Despite being labeled a temporary government, it has exceeded its mandate by enacting legal changes, rather than limiting itself to handling basic administrative and service-related tasks.

Barsoum criticized the ongoing delays in convening a Syrian national conference that would encompass all components of Syrian society to form a new government. "This conference is crucial for forming a government that represents all Syrians, yet it continues to be postponed by the Damascus government," he noted. "This delay does not serve the interests of the Syrian people, who have endured years of struggle and made enormous sacrifices in resisting the Ba'ath regime."

 He stressed the importance of collective participation from all components of Syrian society in steering this transitional process, including the formation of committees for drafting a new constitution and election laws. "Every component of Syria has the right to participate in governing the country and shaping its future," Barsoum asserted.

 Barsoum expressed his view that the Autonomous Administration represents the ideal model for all of Syria, emphasizing that it has been operational for over a decade. "This administration is built on the principles of mutual acceptance, coexistence, and equality among all societal components. These principles are fundamental for the future of Syria," he explained.

 He elaborated that adopting the Autonomous Administration model is particularly vital given the historical and ongoing sectarian and religious conflicts in other parts of Syria. "The inclusive nature of the Autonomous Administration makes it a valuable framework for overcoming such disputes. In addition to fostering coexistence, it promotes equality among all ethnicities and faiths. It’s a practical solution to many of Syria's social and political problems."

Barsoum reiterated the Syriac Union Party's commitment to establishing a decentralized, pluralistic, and democratic government in Syria. "Decentralization, as we envision it, is embodied by the Autonomous Administration model. It’s the first step in transitioning from centralized governance to a decentralized system. Such a system empowers all components of society to manage their own affairs."

 He added that the Autonomous Administration has garnered significant acceptance among various parties in Syria over the past years, demonstrating its viability as a governance model.

Barsoum concluded by expressing hope for a future Syria built through the collective efforts of all its components. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of all democratic forces to work together toward this goal.
