The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued an official statement today, in three languages: Arabic, Kurdish, and Syriac, on its official website, on the occasion of the Akitu holiday (April 1). The statement read:

"On the occasion of the Akitu holiday - the Syriac-Assyrian New Year 6775, which falls on April 1 of each year, we extend our congratulations and blessings to the Syriac-Assyrian people and all Syrians, with all their components.

This holiday, which is a historical symbol that expresses the authenticity and antiquity of the components of Syria, is still celebrated to this day. It is a holiday with profound meanings in marking the beginning of the new year with the beginning of spring and the renewal of nature.

With these meanings for Akitu, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, with all its institutions, has become the guarantor of the rights of all components and their continued existence on its land, with all their cultures and languages. It has succeeded in instilling a new spirit in the people of the region by guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of all ethnic and religious components in the region, and creating a modern model of coexistence, which we are working to make a model for the new Syria, especially as we are on the threshold of the requirements of a transitional phase that will establish the Syria of the future.

We affirm the participation of all Syrian components in all the requirements of this phase, and the dedication of pluralism and participation to guarantee the rights of all components in Syria, including Syriacs, Assyrians, Arabs, Kurds, and all other components, under the umbrella of equal citizenship that recognizes full rights.

A homeland that protects women's freedom and achieves freedom, justice, and equality. Happy Akitu to all the peoples of North and East Syria. Akitu Brikho.
