Armed group burns down homes of members of Murshidi sect in rural Hama

An armed group attacked members of the Murshidi sect in the village of Nab' al-Bared, located in the al-Ghab Plain area in the western Hama countryside. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the armed group stormed the village and attacked the property of civilians belonging to the sect.

According to the SOHR, the militants burned a number of homes, smashed religious images and symbols associated with the sect, and insulting remarks were directed at residents, offending their religious beliefs. This scene sparked local resentment.

Following the attack, dozens of members of the sect organized a protest in the city of al-Suqaylabiyah to denounce the incident, amidst the deafening silence of the Damascus-backed media.

In previous news, the towns of al-Ghasaniyeh and al-Aqrabiyah in the Qusayr countryside, southwest of Homs, witnessed two sit-ins on Saturday and Sunday (May 17 and 18, 2025), attended by hundreds of members of the Murshidi sect. The protestors protested what they described as a "sectarian attack and religious insult" to which several young men from the two towns were subjected by members of the Damascus-backed General Security.
