Archbishop calls for peace, unity in Syria for  New Year

On the occasion of New year, the Archbishop of the Jazira and Euphrates Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church, Mor Maurice Amsih, delivered a congratulatory message that carried calls for peace and love, and hope for a new year to be one of goodness and stability for all Syrians. He emphasized the importance of rejecting hate speech and strengthening dialogue among the sons of one homeland and the components of the region.

The Archbishop said: “We are bidding farewell to a year full of pain and sorrow and welcoming a new year. We have great hope in our Lord that the coming year will be a year of goodness and peace for us and for all the components of the region. We ask God to grant goodness and blessings to this blessed land for the sake of all its components.”

Syrians Are in Need of Peace

He added:“We ask God, by the blessing of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the bearer and King of Peace, who said from His holy mouth: ‘My peace I give you, My peace I leave with you; not as the world gives.’ Peace today is something we truly need, so that our land may be free of wars, terrorism, and destruction, and so that we may live true peace with all Syrians, whether in the Jazira, Damascus, or any part of Syria, sharing peace with all our brothers.”

Resolving Differences with Syrian Hands and Rejecting Hate Speech Is the Basis of National Unity

He noted: “We pray for all the sons of Syria to look at one another with eyes of love and peace, to resolve their problems among themselves as Syrians, without foreign interference. Syrians know their own pain, and we must reconcile with one another for the good of the country.” He expressed hope that the new year would be a year of dialogue, love, and peace for Syrians.

Archbishop Mor Maurice Amsih also called on Syrians to avoid hate speech, affirming that “hate speech affects everyone. When we speak with love—for God is love—we share love together. God said through our Lord Jesus Christ: ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ When we come together in love with our fellow human beings, true love will be reflected on everyone.”

He concluded by asking God to bless all people and the country, and congratulated all Syrians on the occasion of Christmas.
