Ansar al-Sunna claims Latakia mountain fires

The mercenaries of "Ansar al-Sunna Brigades" have claimed responsibility for deliberately starting the fires that have ravaged the Latakia mountains, ongoing for four days. 

In a statement posted on their Telegram account, the mercenaries stated: "The fighters of Ansar al-Sunna Brigades set fire to the Qastal mountains in the Latakia countryside on the 3rd of Muharram."

 The statement added that "the fires spread to other areas, leading to the displacement of residents from some villages in the Latakia countryside and causing several cases of suffocation."

The northern Latakia countryside has been witnessing massive fires for days, which have engulfed vast areas of vegetation, with firefighting teams and locals attempting to control them.

 The fires, which broke out on July 3, have caused the closure of the international road connecting Latakia to Turkey and disrupted several power generation stations due to the intensity of the fires and dense smoke.

 It is worth noting that the mercenaries of "Ansar al-Sunna" previously claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Mar Elias Church in Dweila, Damascus, which killed 26 people and injured dozens.
