Coinciding with the 26th anniversary of the international conspiracy that targeted Leader Abdullah Ocalan and was plotted on October 9, 1998, 8 Amazigh organizations, forces and parties announced on September 19 the establishment of an initiative to introduce the Amazigh public opinion to the ideas and philosophy of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish issue, under the name "The Amazigh Initiative for the Freedom of the Kurdish Fighter Abdullah Ocalan."

Amani Al-Washahi, the representative of the Amazighs of Egypt in the World Amazigh Congress and the coordinator of the Amazigh initiative to release the Kurdish activist Abdullah Ocalan #Freedom_Now, spoke to ANHA's agency about the initiative and its goals.

Amani Al-Washahi explained that: "The Amazigh initiative was founded by a number of activists in the Amazigh movement in solidarity with our brothers in the Kurdish movement. We decided to launch this initiative based on our interest in the Kurdish issue and our belief in the principles of human rights, so it is imperative for us to support human rights issues."

Amani Al-Washahi explained that the main goal of the initiative is to introduce the Amazigh people to the Kurdish issue in general, and the issue of the activist Abdullah Ocalan in particular; she said: "Because most Amazighs are busy with their issues, and their interest in the issues of others is not to a great extent, in addition to communicating and coordinating with similar initiatives."

The Amazigh activist explained: "Leader Abdullah Ocalan was not just a political or military leader, but a philosopher, and he had an intellectual project that, if implemented, would solve the problems of the Middle East. He carries a political solution to the problems of sectarian conflict that were and still are tearing the Middle East apart, and this is the main reason for launching the initiative at this particular time, as we are on the verge of a regional war."

Regarding the necessity of solidarity among peoples in their issues, Amani al-Washahi stressed: "The Amazigh and Kurdish peoples are called twin peoples, because we share similarities, even though we are not geographically adjacent and have not met historically, but the process of solidarity among peoples with similar issues enhances the presentation of these issues internationally and gives them legal weight, which accelerates their solution.

That is why we - the Amazigh - always stand in solidarity with legal issues that are similar to ours, and we welcome the solidarity of others with us, because legal work, first and last, is a mutual work." According to the initiative's program, it will work on the cultural, media, legal and artistic levels to introduce the Amazigh people to the philosophy of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish issue in the countries where there are Amazighs, in the homeland (North Africa) and the countries of immigration.
