Media reports indicated that the head of the transitional government in Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, arrived in the US capital, Washington, today, where he entered the White House through the back door, which is located at the southern end, and is an entrance not designated for the media.

These sources said that, according to American diplomatic custom and protocol, guests entering through this door is considered an indication of an unwelcome visit in public, and is often treated within the framework of reservation or political caution, unlike official visits in which leaders are received from the northern or main entrance, which is designated for ceremonies and information.

American media quoted the White House as saying that US President Donald Trump's meeting with al-Sharaa had begun earlier today.

Al-Sharaa's visit to Washington comes about 6 months after his meeting with US President Donald Trump, during his visit to the Middle East last May.
