Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hajri, the head of the Druze Sheikhs, today called on the international community to initiate an independent international investigation into the horrific crimes committed by the transitional government forces against the residents of Sweida.

Al-Hajri stated that what occurred in Sweida constitutes "a systematic genocide," calling for urgent investigations to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable.

He explained that the attacks included the slaughter of children in front of their families, the execution of elders in public squares, the burning of homes and their inhabitants, as well as abductions and the use of residents as hostages.

Al-Hajri called for the perpetrators to be referred to the International Criminal Court and for impartial investigations to be conducted into the attacks, including the indiscriminate shelling of villages. He also urged the sending of international monitoring missions to protect civilians, the cessation of political and military support, and pressure on the transitional government in Syria to adhere to the ceasefire agreement.
