Attention is turning to the Peace and Democratic Society Initiative launched by leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27 of last year, to resolve the crises in Northern Kurdistan and Turkey. However, the Turkish state has not taken any steps so far to make the initiative successful. On the contrary, it continues to launch attacks on the areas of legitimate defense, raising many questions about the seriousness of the Turkish authorities in dealing with this initiative.

In this context, Akram Darwish, a member of the Intellectuals Union in the city of Ad-Derbasiyah, said that the Turkish state's position remains ambiguous and unclear. He added, "As the Kurdistan Workers' Party has confirmed, no progress in the peace process can be made without ensuring the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan, as he is the one capable of leading this phase himself. It is impossible to talk about a genuine peace process while he is still in prison."

For his part, Saud Ma'ish, a member of the Union of Intellectuals in the city, emphasized that the Turkish state has not taken any serious steps to make the peace initiative successful, despite the fact that the initiative of leader Abdullah Ocalan represents a historic opportunity to enhance stability in Turkey and the entire region.

He explained that "the continued attacks on the legitimate defense areas and the absence of any internal changes in Turkish policy confirm the lack of a desire to achieve peace."

Maish added, "Turkey must abandon its policies of repression and threatening rhetoric and embrace democracy in line with the demands of the current situation. Otherwise, it will lead the country toward further political and economic crises."

The intellectuals concluded by pointing out that the Turkish authorities have only two choices: either pursue the path of peace through genuine dialogue and guarantee the freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, or continue on the path of repression, which will only bring more war and division.
