AANES confirms its commitment to political solution on 20th anniversary of Qamishlo uprising

The Democratic AANES issued a written statement, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the massacre that turned into an uprising on March 12, 2004, in which it renewed its firm adherence to a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and it read:

“March 12 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Qamishlo uprising on March 12, and despite the attempts at sedition wanted by the regime and those with it, it contributed to breaking the barrier of fear and oppression, and it went beyond the city of Qamishlo to extend to Aleppo, Kobani, Damascus, and all areas of the Jazera.

The March 12 uprising is the basic building block of the democratic revolution in Syria, and it is the basis for defining the nature of the revolution through which the prospects for a solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria will be opened, and with it the solution of all the issues of the components of NE Syria. This uprising is an impressive historical legacy, and an important topic when we talk about confronting the oppression, killing, and persecution that the Baath regime practiced for decades in Syria.

Today, after all these years have passed, the March 12 Uprising has resulted in a historic project stemming from the need of Syrians in general, as well as a path to a national solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria, which is the Autonomous Administration project emanating from the strength of the March 12 Uprising through the July 19 Revolution. What our people have achieved today, despite all the attempts of sedition since the time of the uprising and before it, and until the present day to attack our people against each other, is considered an important historical transformation and an achievement for all components in NE Syria.

Especially since the policy of sedition has become exposed; It is summed up in the fact that it wants to divide and attack the components against each other out of a desire to prevent their unity, so that they do not unite in the reality of a strong common struggle; But our people, based on the legacy of March 12, thwarted all these attempts, and continues to adhere to their promise through their unity, common struggle, and the project of brotherhood of peoples and the democratic nation.

The March 12 uprising broke the mentality of hegemony and our people confronted with their bare chest the barrage of live bullets, and created a new concept in the face of genocide and oppression, and proved that without solving the Kurdish issue in Syria, and without taking into account the reality of the regions of northern and eastern Syria, the role of its components and valuing their struggle in building a democratic model and combating terrorism and extremism is neither a solution nor a real stability in Syria. We recall all the martyrs of the March 12 uprising and affirm that we are proceeding with all our capabilities, determination and strength towards supporting the aspirations of our people and achieving their goals in democracy. We affirm that the March 12 uprising is our solid foundation towards achieving these goals, liberating our occupied regions, and building unified, democratic, pluralistic Syria. What we emphasize on this occasion is that the AANES initiative for a political solution based on the unity of Syrians and achieving a democratic solution is the basis, and without that, all the endeavors that are being talked about will not succeed, including the solution paths in Astana and elsewhere, as well as the Constitutional Committee, which will not see the light without participation of political will of our people. Our project is the solution project, and there is no solution without it, and it is the true guarantee of the unity of Syria and the unity of its people. Therefore, we call on all Syrian national forces to see the Syrian reality as it is, and without ignoring the reality of our pioneering role in Syria, we stress that all bets on breaking the resolve and will of our people are losing bets, and we affirm that dialogue is the correct path to resolving all matters.”
