An old hand grenade exploded at a military site on Mount Hermon in southern Syria, injuring seven Israeli soldiers, four of them in critical condition.

Israeli media reported that the incident occurred while soldiers were handling the old grenade at the military location.

All injured soldiers were transferred to Ziv Hospital in Safed, northern Israel, for treatment.

The Israeli army is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the incident and is taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the forces and the surrounding site.

In a related development, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on X: “On August 13, 2025, forces of the Kfir Brigade were able to eliminate terrorist Mohammed Nayef Abu Shamla, commander of an elite company in Hamas’ military wing in southern Khan Yunis.”

He added: “Abu Shamla participated in an attempted raid on the ‘Mars’ military site during the bloody massacre on October 7 and promoted terrorist plots against the Israel Defense Forces and the State of Israel during the conflict.”

Avichay confirmed that the army and Shin Bet will continue to take strong action against saboteurs linked to the massacre.
