Adam Abdel Mawla, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, announced the allocation of $625,000 to support the urgent response for people affected by the forest fires in the Latakia countryside.

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, Abdel Mawla said that this contribution will enable humanitarian partners to provide immediate assistance to thousands of those affected by the fires.

He explained that this funding comes in response to the severe consequences caused by the forest fires on local communities, emphasizing the necessity of swift action and solidarity with the Syrian people during this emergency crisis, and continuing efforts to support partners in meeting the needs of the affected.

The United Nations also stated in a previous announcement on Tuesday that its teams are participating in humanitarian response operations in cooperation with Syrian authorities to assess the impacts of the ongoing fires in the Latakia countryside.

It is worth mentioning that the forest fires remain burning in the Latakia countryside for the ninth consecutive day, with participation from government firefighting teams, as well as firefighting vehicles from the NE of Syria sent yesterday by the Autonomous Administration, in addition to aerial support from Turkish, Lebanese, and Jordanian aircraft to help extinguish the fires.
