4 people killed under torture in Interim Govt.'s detentions in Aleppo

Four people from the residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh were tortured to death in detention centers run by the Syrian Interim Government after being arrested during recent attacks on Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the victims' families were instructed to go to the forensic medicine department to get the bodies and sign death certificates, without any explanation of the causes or circumstances of death. Some bodies were handed over without allowing for a full examination.

According to the Observatory, the residents in Afrin countryside received the bodies of three people, including a 49-year-old man who was arrested on January 10th while leaving the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood with other residents. He was from the village of Hobka in the Rajo district of Afrin.

The Observatory explained that the three bodies were handed over to the families without allowing for examination, and they were forced to sign death certificates by the so-called "General Security" of the Interim Government.

In a related context, the family of a fourth resident of the village of Kurzeleh in the Bulbul district of Afrin was informed that they must have signed their son's death certificate on January 22nd and buried him in the "Hajj Abdel Qader al-Sabbagh" cemetery, and this after he had been arrested by the mercenaries of the Syrian Interim Government during the attack on the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.

These incidents are part of the ongoing crimes perpetrated by the mercenaries of the Syrian Interim Government in Syria.

The Observatory noted that the number of martyrs since the first day of the attacks on neighborhoods in Aleppo has reached 111, with new deaths continuing to be recorded as a result of torture in detention centers.

The Observatory called on international human rights organizations to launch an immediate and transparent investigation into these violations, hold those responsible for torture and killings accountable, and ensure the protection of civilians in areas under the control of the Syrian Interim Government.
