24th General Assembly of KNK kicks off

Today, the proceedings of the 24th General Assembly of the KNK officially kicked off in Venlo, the Netherlands, under the slogan “Democratic National Unity.” The meeting is scheduled to continue for two days.

More than 300 delegates are participating in the meeting, including politicians, representatives of institutions, intellectuals, and writers from different parts of the four regions of Kurdistan and from abroad. Organizers stated that a number of delegates were unable to attend due to visa-related problems and bureaucratic obstacles.

The session was opened with the Kurdish national anthem “Ey Reqîb,” followed by a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs.

The co-chair of the KNK, Zainab Murad, stated that recent developments in the region carry both opportunities and challenges for the Kurdish people. She stressed the importance of strengthening Kurdish unity, noting that the aim of the meeting is to establish a common ground in preparation for the Kurdish national congress and related activities.

“We will not remain without a political status”

For his part, the co-chair of the KNK, Ahmad Karamus, said that convening the General Assembly comes at a critical historical moment, stressing that the Kurdish people will not abandon the gains they have achieved and will not enter the new century without a political status that guarantees their rights.

Karamus pointed out that national unity is a key priority, announcing the formation of a special committee to work on enhancing coordination across different parts of Kurdistan. He also called on all Kurdish political forces to support efforts toward national unity and the forthcoming congress.

Following the speeches of the two co-chairs, the presidium of the session was elected, consisting of Aziz Namli, Asrin Qadri, Zubida Zomrad, Hosheng Darwish, and Janan Majid. Members of the presidium then delivered their speeches to the attendees.

The meeting continues with the screening of a documentary film reviewing 27 years of activities and work of the KNK.
