22 Violations of March 10 Deal: SDF calls on transitional government to be compliant

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Command stated, in a public statement, that the ceasefire agreement had been breached, and it urged the transitional government of Syria to obey the terms of the March 10 agreement and be held responsible for such breaches.

The announcement declared: "While the Syrian nation and all who are committed to a peaceful solution await stabilization in Syria, Turkey-backed groups under the pretext of the Damascus government continue to violate the ceasefire time and again at numerous sites, such as Deir ez-Zor, Deir Hafer, Tishrin Dam, and Tal Tamr. The groups also conduct suspicious activities near the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo, in flagrant violation of the agreement signed between the two districts' administrations and the Damascus administration on April 1, 2024.".

The aforementioned forces have targeted areas in North and East Syria 22 times using heavy weapons, ground attacks, and efforts to cross the Euphrates River to target our forces' headquarters in Deir ez-Zor. These attacks have resulted in more than 11 civilians getting injured and widespread destruction in civilian-populated areas.

These attacks are in breach of the letter of the agreement reached between Mr. Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Commander-in-Chief of our forces, Mazloum Abdi, specifically due to the fact that the core of this agreement is a ceasefire. Strict adherence to the rights of civilians and escalating the chances of a political solution.

We have practiced restraint in the recent period and been keen to remain calm in the face of these attacks, in our belief that stability in Syria requires genuine partnership and collective responsibility on the part of all concerned. However, maintaining such attacks erodes mutual confidence, tries understandings, and fosters a war mentality when Syria most badly requires dialogue, for which the government of Damascus is completely responsible.

Therefore, we:

We call upon the Syrian government of Damascus and its allies, as well as the Turkish-backed forces, to cease all the breaches forthwith and adhere to the stipulations of the agreement.

We call upon the international community and human rights organizations to witness these breaches and assist in securing respect for the agreements that have been signed.

We extend our hand to dialogue and cooperation for a stable and secure Syria, yet we are prepared to do whatever it takes to defend the rights and safety of our people.
