200 sick cases a day in al-Shahba

The number of people with gastroenteritis and food poisoning has increased in the villages of al-Shahba canton and Sherawa district in the occupied countryside of Afrin, especially in the camps for the displaced, as a result of the high temperatures.

Every medical point of the Kurdish Red Crescent receives about 50 sick cases per day, not to mention cases of diarrhea in children in particular and scorpion stings, according to the administrator of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Hassan Nabo.

The Red Crescent has 4 main points in the areas of al-Shahba and Sherawa district of Afrin canton, namely, Burj al-Qas in Sherawa district - Berkhdan camp - Sardam camp - Ahras district.

Hassan Nabo attributed the causes of seasonal diseases in the summer to high temperatures, stressing that camp residents are more susceptible to diseases, especially among children, since plastic tents do not protect from extreme heat.

The tents lack the most basic necessities of life in light of the inaction of international and human rights organizations and the suffocating siege of the Damascus government on the area.

In this context, the displaced Nizar Abdul Qadir, who lives in the Berkhdan camp, says, "We put our young children in the water during the noon hours, with the high temperatures to reduce the severity of the extreme heat."

He added, "Our children suffer from diarrhea, gastroenteritis, and food poisoning, and medical points lack medicine because of the blockade."

The siege of the Damascus government on al-Shahba canton and the displaced people of Afrin worsens the situation, as the high temperature does not allow the passage of fuel to operate electricity generators, which exacerbates diseases and increases their symptoms, especially among children and the elderly.
