Jurists prepare to put isolation on the agenda of the United Nations

A group of jurists, with the participation and support of some human rights organizations specialized in human rights violations and political prisoners, is preparing to raise the issue of the isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the Turkish authorities' violation of United Nations laws regarding human rights, within the sessions of the 53rd meeting of the Permanent Committee on Human Rights at the United Nations.

Leader Abdullah Ocalan has been detained in Imrali prison, for more than 24 years, in strict isolation, and no information has been received from him for more than 27 months, despite all his lawyer's continuous requests to the Turkish authorities to meet with him.

Today, the actual preparation for the work and sessions of the 53rd meeting of the Permanent Committee on Human Rights, in the Swiss capital, Geneva, has begun, as part of the committee's regular sessions, to research and study human rights in the world.

And according to a member of Amnesty International, the former President of the Egyptian Court, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the House of Justice for International Arbitration and Law Firm, Alaa Salama, in a statement to ANHA’s agency, who will participate in the next few days, accompanied by a group of jurists and representatives of human rights organizations in the world, to raise the issue of isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, as well as the Turkish authorities' violation of human rights laws within the meeting's work.

He stressed that the proposal would be to question accountability for the findings of the Human Rights Committee in the reports submitted regarding the violations and breaches it committed against leader Abdullah Ocalan and his companions in Imrali Prison, and against political detainees in Turkey.

In September 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Committee called on the Turkish authorities to allow the detainees to meet with their lawyers, and in January 2023, the committee renewed its calls to the authorities again, but to no avail.

the lawyer and client of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, Mezlûm Dînç, confirmed that the court is not entitled, according to Turkish laws, to impose sanctions on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, but since the relevant international organizations do not respond to requests to meet, Turkey continues its violations easily, and called for the necessity implementation of the United Nations resolution in this regard.
