Newroz Fire 2023 lit in Kobani

Dozens of people from Kobani canton participated in the first Newroz celebration in 2023 in front of the People's Municipality building in Shiran district, east of Kobani.

The event began with a minute of silence in remembrance of the souls of the martyrs, followed by a speech by the co-chair of the Shiran district council, Lutfia Suleyman, who said: "Newroz is the symbol of the struggle for the Kurdish people, and the birth of a new spirit with a cry launched by the martyr Mazloum Dogan as he set his body on fire, to teach the tyrants of the Turkish occupation state that we not accept injustice, either death with honor or freedom.

She added, "The time has come to break the restrictions, and remember the martyr Mazloum Dogan who lives in us, the time has come for Kurdistan to unite with its four parts."

Lutfia Suleiman stressed this year will be the year of breaking the bars of Imrali prison and achieving the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The event ends with the lighting of the Newroz 2023 torch.
