Various readings continue regarding the fighting between mercenary groups in the areas occupied by Turkey in northern Syria, which recently led to the control of the mercenaries of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Victory Front) over the occupied city of Afrin and its surroundings.

 Turkish instructions to warlords

This development was considered by observers to be at the behest of the Turkish occupation state, and they set many goals, including disciplining other groups, in addition to preparing for the withdrawal of "Tahrir al-Sham" mercenaries from Idlib after the intended understanding between Damascus and the Turkish occupation, and other goals and scenarios.

The Kurdish writer and politician, Salah Alamdari, spoke to our agency about this, saying: "All the factions, whether in Idlib, Afrin, or throughout northern Syria are similar to each other. They may differ slightly in behavior, but they have the same belief. All these armed factions combined do not  It can do something without its Turkish sponsor."

He pointed out that "there is no fundamental disagreement between these groups, as these groups are all led by warlords who have nothing to do with the Syrian revolution or freedom and democracy, people who were brought in by the intelligence services from the bottom and the social bottom and appointed as leaders of these factions, the Syrian officers who defected from the Syrian army and the Syrian qualifications.  All of them are either in the camps under house arrest or have been liquidated or in prison, all who lead these factions are people pushed by the regional intelligence from the bottom to the surface to benefit from and control them.

He explained, "What happened a few days ago of Jabhat al-Nusra's expansion northward towards Afrin also at the behest of the Turkish state has a direct relationship to the security arrangements agreed upon by the Syrian security side with the Turkish security side in their uninterrupted meetings."

Alamdari stressed: "Without Turkish approval or Turkey's at least turning a blind eye, none of the factions in northern Syria can move, simply if Turkey got angry with it and closed its borders only in his face, this faction would have died, all the factions in the north of Syria breathe, live and finance through the Turkish borders, meaning that Turkey has conditions on all these factions, which are nothing but pawns on the Turkish chessboard, it pushed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham to the region for many reasons and goals.”

 many goals

Alamdari set several goals for these developments, saying: "I think that the purpose behind the expansion of Jabhat al-Nusra in the north at Turkish instigation is, first, to discipline some factions and groups that said no to the Turkish turn toward the regime and made some protests against the new Turkish position that calls for negotiations with  the regime, secondly, is strengthening the position of the Turkmen groups within the strength of the so-called national army, specifically Al-Amashat, Al-Hamzat and other groups, and in the end Turkey wants to settle these factions and the Turkmen settlers in this region.”

Regarding the third goal, Alamdari added, "The fulfillment of a condition imposed on it by the Syrian regime, which is the demand for the city of Idlib and its south. This means that Jabhat al-Nusra, which controls the area, must move to the north."

As for the fourth goal, according to the Kurdish writer and politician, “The factions in Afrin will either pledge allegiance to Jabhat al-Nusra, or they will flee towards the east towards Jarablus, Girê Spî and Serê Kaniyê, where Turkey will use them later in its war against the Syrian Democratic Forces as it plans.  Jabhat al-Nusra will also become close to the camp residents and the forcibly displaced from Afrin in al-Shahba camps, and this will also pose a danger to the region's residents.”

Afrin.. A chapter attached to the Turkish Anatolian Reform Project

Observers believe that one of the main objectives of this fighting is to destroy the city and push those who remain to emigrate in order to facilitate the construction of settlements for mercenaries and their families, thus changing the demography of Afrin and the entire occupied areas.

On the occurrence of this in Afrin alone and the importance of the region, Alamdari said: "Afrin has a strategic position in Turkish studies. It is a chapter attached to the Turkish project, the Anatolian reform project that the Turks started a hundred years ago, in Afrin, unlike the surrounding Kurdish cities and towns, both within  Syria or Turkey, Afrin had a distinguished position, the people of Afrin were able to preserve their heritage, language, customs and traditions, in addition to that they rode the wave of development that was remarkable in the recent period, the people of Afrin developed themselves and their agricultural tools.

He explained, "The figures talk about the development of Afrin, whether academics, doctors, engineers, industrial projects and urban expansion. Therefore, the Turkish state, which does not want the Kurds and Afrin in particular, had to develop, but rather wanted it to catch up with its sisters on the other side and to have the Kurdish soul, the Kurdish culture, lacking in it,  It targeted Afrin in 2018, and is still using systematic policies trying to eliminate everything related to the Kurds in Afrin. The expansion of Jabhat al-Nusra in the recent period also comes within this framework in addition to the previous goals.

"Safe Zone" as other projects failed

The Turkish occupation state has always promoted the "safe zone" in reference to the occupied Syrian areas, with the aim of deporting Syrian refugees residing in Turkey to these areas and resettling them after the displacement of the original population.

A few days ago, the Deputy Minister of Interior of the Turkish occupation and other officials toured the occupied north of Aleppo, and the Turkish official spoke about what he called "normal life" at a time when these areas were witnessing bloody fighting between mercenary groups.

The Kurdish writer and politician spoke about this, saying: "The Turkish president still dreams of a safe zone, although during his relations, meetings and international forums since 2013 and 2015, it presented to the European Union, Saudi Arabia and many international destinations his project in settlement or in establishing safe areas. I remember well when  He said in one of his speeches, Turkish manpower, expertise, and European money provided to the Syrian revolution will create safe areas for the displaced Syrians.

He explained, "The people who have been displaced from the Syrian depth, Erdogan wants to reside in the northern areas, specifically in the Kurdish areas. He wants a demographic change to occur on the entire border strip along the 920 km length.  It has more to do with the presidential elections that will be held next year in Turkey than it is a feasible project."

He added, "Even the displaced did not welcome this project. Rather, the displaced Syrians demanded to return to their areas. Even Russia rejected Erdogan's project and discussed with him how to return the people to their places in cooperation with the Syrian regime. Therefore, you see the Turkish government cramming behind the Syrian regime to find understandings with it, because all the projects announced by Erdogan  Whether in the safe zone, demographic change, or cutting off parts of Syria, all these projects will fail and will not be successful.

Therefore, before turning 180 degrees towards the Syrian regime and forgetting all his previous speeches and all his promises to the poor Syrians and all his promises to the Syrians who put their eggs in the Turkish basket, he gave up all his promises and is chasing after the regime to find understandings because for Erdogan this approach is less costly, whether material or moral.  ".

Alamdari pointed out that "to proceed with its current project against the international will, against the will of the Astana parties, against the Syrian regime, and against its partners, even in NATO and other organizations. If Turkey insists on its projects, whether in the safe zone, forced displacement or demographic change, it stands against  The international will for this is the shortest and least expensive way for him to turn towards the regime and negotiate with it, which is the sweeter of the two things.
