 AL-SHAHBA - GANDHI ALO

After the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011, and the transformation of the popular movement into a tool to serve foreign agendas, specifically after 2012, al-Shahba canton turned into a battlefield between mercenary groups and ISIS mercenaries to spread the authoritarian and obscurantist mentality on its people who suffered from the scourge of wars between these forces that  it continued to control it, and it was the biggest loser, as it was abandoned, its homes destroyed, and its properties looted by these groups.

The canton has become suffering from a lack of infrastructure as a result of its destruction by these mercenary groups, in addition to the migration of its people out of Syria or into Syria, which made it almost empty of residents until 2016.

The lack of infrastructure in the district as a result of the conflict between mercenary groups

Signs of the Syrian crisis began to appear in al-Shahba canton in 2012, when mercenary groups began attacking it, so that ISIS mercenaries could occupy it until it was later liberated.

To talk about this issue, our agency met with the co-chair of the al-Shahba canton council, Juma Kalou, who began his speech by highlighting the situation of the province with the start of the crisis.  Wars broke out between the mercenaries of the so-called "Free Army" and "radical Islamic factions" through which many countries tried to intervene in the Syrian crisis in general, to manage and deepen it.

Kalou continued, "Since the beginning of 2013, the "radical factions" have taken control of the canton and included mercenaries of the so-called "Free Army" to it, and as a result of the wars and conflicts that took place between these mercenaries, a large part of the people migrated out of Syria and the other part into the Syrian regions."

Kalou pointed out that the district was suffering from a lack of life before its liberation, "the situation remained this way until the liberation of al-Shahba by the revolutionary forces that were formed from the people of the region, and they tried to restore life to it."

In 2016, part of al-Shahba canton was liberated by Jaysh al-Thwar, the Kurdish Front, and the Front for the Protection of Women from mercenaries. Its situation changed radically, and the people began to return to it, open economic projects and re-develop their businesses.

Kalou added: "In al-Shahba there were many factories, agricultural projects and livestock projects, and after its occupation by mercenaries, it witnessed many wars and conflicts, the economic situation was collapsing."

 Formation of Al-Shahba District Council

On August 7, 2017, the establishment of the al-Shahba District Council was announced, and it began to work according to the available capabilities to serve the citizens, so the conditions of the district changed and revived in several respects.

At that stage,  he commented: "After the liberation of part of al-Shahba, local councils were formed from its people to reorganize it and return the indigenous people to it, but as a result of poor services and poor capabilities, and as it was a military area, we did not reach the required level in returning all the displaced population, but something  little by little, people are returning to their land."

Kalou noted the revival of the province in several respects, as a result of the services and works carried out by the al-Shahba District Council since its establishment.  for the return of most of the people of the area to it.

However, these actions carried out by the council have received vigorous attempts by the stalkers to thwart and eliminate them and re-impose a dark mentality on the district, according to Kalou.

Kalou touched on the many problems that the canton suffers from due to the ambitions of the stalkers, "there are the constant threats from the Turkish occupation state, as well as the siege imposed on it by the Damascus government that prevents the remaining residents from returning to their homes."

Turkey's goal of constant threats is to achieve its interests

Al-Shahba canton, especially the city of Tel Rifaat, is under threat from the Turkish occupation state, in addition to the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries bombarding the area on an almost daily basis, which led to the death and injury of hundreds of residents.

During his speech, Kalou pointed out that Turkish threats are one of the most important causes of instability in the region. "The continuous threats from the Turkish occupying state are one of the most important causes of instability in the canton. These threats did not stop for a moment, and the media statements about a military campaign against the boycott did not stop."  In addition to the attacks and bombardment by drones and shells that bombard civilian homes continuously.Through these attacks, Turkey is trying to empty the area to facilitate its control to revive its Ottoman project and the Milli Pact in controlling the entire region.

Kalou concluded his speech by saying, "Turkey is trying to revive the defunct Ottoman Empire. Historically, most of the powers that ruled the region, they ruled after their control over the al-Shahba regions, and all the major wars and all the empires that were formed in them, started from here, and this is a replay again of history, the Turkish state is trying to restore  As the Ottomans did in the battle of Marj Dabiq against the Mamluks and were able to control the region and enter all the Arab regions through it and expand as a major country, Turkey is trying once again to return to that history because of which the region suffered so much.”
