Yesterday, the Turkish occupation army targeted a tourist resort in the Darkary district of Zakho district in Başûr, martyring 9 Iraqis and wounding 26 others.

Aldar Khalil, member of the co-chairmanship of the Democratic Union Party, expressed their position on the attack that targeted Darkary in Zakho region, and said, "The Turkish occupation failed in its attacks on the legitimate defense areas, and is now targeting civilians."

Aldar Khalil stressed that the Turkish state, with its attack on Zakho, is trying to empty the region. "The Turkish state has always considered the policy of genocide against the Kurdish people as a basis for it. In northern Kurdistan, it evacuated nearly 4,000 villages, following a policy of genocide against the Kurds, from the beginning of its establishment and until now. And with this attack now, it wants to empty the region of its residents, and send a message to the Iraqi people and southern Kurdistan; Just as it did that in northern Kurdistan, he is trying to stop civilian life and tourist places, and turn them into military areas, with the aim of continuing the occupation."

Aldar Khalil pointed out that the Turkish occupation targets civilians due to the failure of its attacks on the legitimate defense areas, and noted, "Since April 17 until now, the legitimate defense areas have been subjected to violent attacks. And when it failed in those areas - we can say that it failed to implement its plans - it targets civilians, and this is not the first time that Turkish occupation does this, it is continuously targeting the areas of Amadiya, Gari, Heftanen and civilian places, in an attempt to reach the policy of extermination. The Iraqi people, the Iraqi government, and everyone who wants to protect Iraqi sovereignty must express their position on this.

Aldar Khalil added, "The silence of the Iraqi government regarding the attacks is the reason for this massacre. The Turkish state has been violating Iraq's sovereignty for years. Everyone kept silent. That is why the attacks reached this stage, and now the Turkish attacks have reached a level that does not allow civilians to go to tourist places. If the Iraqi government had not been silent from the beginning, Turkey would not have been able to launch its brutal attacks on the people of the region. Our people in southern Kurdistan must be aware that the Turkish occupation wants with its attacks to open the way to legitimize the occupation of the lands of southern Kurdistan.

Aldar Khalil said: "Everyone must express their positions, and their positions should not be through statements only, they should make it clear that the Turkish occupation wants to destroy us completely, and that this attack targets the existence of the people of the region, and the political forces in southern Kurdistan must realize well that these attacks are not only on the Guerillas."

KDP is a partner in the attack

Aldar Khalil added, "The Turkish state is not the only one involved. The KDP is a partner, and the people of southern Kurdistan must know that the KDP is a partner in everything Turkey does. But what is required is to show a general position to protect Iraqi sovereignty."

At the conclusion of his speech, Khalil offered his condolences to the victims' families of the attack, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.
