The stage that began in Amed prison after July 14, 1982, was one of the most important stages of resistance against fascist thought, as it turned the prisons of the fascist Turkish state into a platform for resistance, struggle and free thought, and a new stage was emanated for the freedom movement of Kurdistan and the Kurds in general against attacks of physical genocide and cultural melting.

On this day, the pioneers of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement announced a hunger strike to death in Amed prison against the brutal practices pursued by the fascist Turkish state in Amed prison against them.  During that resistance and after 56 days, the strugglers, Kemal Pîr, Ali Çîçek, Mehmed Xeyrî Durmuş and Akîf Yilmaz were martyred.

In this regard, the national figure, Abdul Karim Saroxan, drew attention to the role of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in protecting peoples from the policies of smelting and extermination, saying: “The people of Kurdistan were subjected to cultural and ethnic genocide attacks that posed a great danger to their existence, and as a result of the policies of the fascist countries occupying Kurdistan, the Kurds at that time became they deny their nationalism and culture, but with the establishment of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 1978, a new hope was created for all the people of Kurdistan, not just the Kurds.

Since the beginning of its establishment, the PKK has been subjected to many attacks with the aim of liquidating it and ending it and thus exterminating the Kurds in general. In this regard, Abdul Karim Saroxan believes that the torture and practices that were followed in Amed prison are also a link in the chain of those attacks.

Abdul Karim Saroxan referred to the stage the Kurdistan Freedom Movement went through prior to the resistance to Amed prison, saying: "After the 1980 coup in Turkey led by Kanaan Afren, the Kurdistan Freedom Movement was subjected to great pressures with the aim of liquidating and ending it, and thus the movement decided at that time to leave the country to protect its existence, and the state arrested cadres of the movement those who remained in Turkey.”

The fascist Turkish state carried out a military coup in Turkey in 1980, after which most of the Kurdish and Turkish revolutionaries were arrested, among them were (Kemal Pîr, Xeyrî Durmuş, Alî Çîçek, Mustafa Karasû, Mazlûm Dogan, Akif Yilmaz, Ferhad Qurtay, Salih Kendal and Sakîne Cansiz hebûn.)

Regarding the heroic resistance that the pioneers of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement demonstrated in Amed prison against the brutal practices of the Turkish fascist authorities, Saroxan stressed: "They were subjected to all brutal practices and contrary to human dignity, and reached a stage where the existence of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement became linked to their resistance."

He confirmed that the resistance to Amed prison in all its stages was a response to the enemy’s practices in its inability to liquidate and end the ideology of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, and continued: “The burning of the fighter Mazloum Dogan on the eve of Newroz was a message to the enemy in its inability to extinguish the flame of freedom. The Kurds, this process gave all the Kurds and strugglers in Amed prison high morale, and the July 14 resistance also gave the people of Kurdistan valuable historical lessons, and conveyed the thought and spirit of the PKK resistance to all the peoples of the world.”

He continued: "This resistance put the PKK before a new stage of resistance. In response to the historical resistance to Amed prison, the party began an armed struggle against fascism and occupation, and with this resistance the PKK was able to maintain its existence to this day."

Saroxan indicated that the July 19th Revolution in Rojava, North and East Syria is a continuation of the spirit of the July 14 resistance in Amed prison, and added: "We are still living today with the same determination and will that we drew from the resistance of Amed prison, and in that spirit we will continue our struggle."

He explained that the enemy, which practiced brutal policies against prisoners in Amed prison at the time, was following the same practices on the peoples of north and east Syria and Kurdistan in general through its attacks and its use of chemical weapons, but the people raised the slogan "Resistance is Life", which was known by the resistance of Amed prison against these attacks.

He added at the conclusion of his speech: "This spirit continues to resist the July 19th Revolution, and the resistance of leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali prison against the strict isolation imposed by the fascist Turkish authorities."
