PYD regrets over position of Sweden and Finland, calls on peoples to reject unjust understandings

PYD's Media Office issued a statement regarding the position of Sweden and Finland which read:

"In light of the world’s preoccupation with the Russian-Ukrainian war that is knocking on the doors of European countries, the Turkish state exploited this preoccupation to practice the most heinous types of blackmail, especially when Sweden and Finland applied to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO”.

The statement added, "The mention of the names of the People's Protection Units (YPG), the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, in the memorandum of understanding signed between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Sweden and Finland, is unfortunate and unfair against the Kurdish people, and indicates how far the governments of those countries are.

The statement added " We all know that the Kurdish forces in all of Europe, including Sweden and Finland, did not engage in any activity that contradicts the laws and rules in force in those countries".

The statement affirmed, "Our PYD considers the Swedish and Finnish peoples to be friendly peoples and trusts democratic institutions, organizations and democratic public opinion in both countries, and indeed in all of Europe, and seeks from these peoples to object to such unjust understandings.
