​​​​​​​Omar: Women's Council within PYD is women's voice and represent them

Under the slogan "In the spirit of people's revolutionary war, we will defeat Turkish occupation and build a democratic Syria", the ninth conference of Democratic Union Party (PYD) kicked off on Saturday, with the attendance of 700 delegates from the party's members, offices and representations in NE Syria, Kurdistan and Europe.

In an interview with Shadia Omar, she spoke about the need of Women's Council within Democratic Union Party, and the role it played within the party.

Omar explained that the council was established as a result of the urgent need to form a structure for women, in order to organize women within society.

Womens Council works in an organized manner within the society at the beginning of its establishment, where it formed women's groups to organize women in political, social and organizational terms. It also launched several campaigns to combat all forms of violence against women, including murders of women, like (anti-violence against women, and stop killing of women) as well as organizing seminars and activists in order to promote the political vision of women.

She also spoke about the current stage and the continuous threats of Turkish occupation state to launch attacks on NE Syria, and the special war that target women in the first place, saying: "All women must do their duty and spread awareness, and be prepared to defend their gender in front of all the dangers that they face."

And called on them to unite their ranks to stand up to the crimes committed against them by some who stick to patriarchal mentality, noting that one of the most prominent goals of Women's Council is to defend it and confront all forms of violence, injustice and oppression to which it is exposed.

Shadia Omar indicated that within Democratic Union Party, women were able to be the voice of women and represent them, and were able to reach women in most of the political parties in order to unify the ranks of women and take women's freedom as the basis for the freedom of a democratic society.

She spoke about the difficulties and obstacles that faced Women's Council, saying: "The real identity of women has been obliterated and marginalized by tyrannical and capitalist regimes, in addition to the influence of traditions on them, but despite that we were able to make great moves and victories, and that thanks to martyrs' sacrifices.

And she indicated that during party's ninth conference, the situation of women was discussed according to the conditions of the current stage, and how to conduct business by the General Council and Women's Council in the party, in addition to developing a joint action plan to work on it.
