Leader's Defense Committee: World’s states must assume its responsibilities towards what happens in Imrali Prison

In a written statement issued on Monday, which we received a copy of, the commission considered the violations of the Turkish authorities against Leader Ocalan that contributed to all violations of the Turkish state regarding the rights protected by international law.

Its statement came against the backdrop of the Turkish occupation authorities' decision to ban meetings with lawyers for a period of six months, on the 13th of last April, without providing any information to the lawyers about the reason for this ban.

The Committee for the Defense of the Freedom of the Leader in NE, Syria said in its statement:

“In light of the continued isolation and dispossession of Leader Ocalan in an unknown area of ​​the island of Imrali, far from the standards recognized by the United Nations, in terms of its goodness and what is going on in it, the interview is still the right of Leader Ocalan to meet with his lawyers and his family, with the highest degree of fascism. It is the Turkish state that refuses, and by a decision of its Public Prosecution in the city of Bursa, the leader’s lawyer requested to visit him, which infuriated the European Bar Association for Democracy and International Human Rights, and prompted it to request the European Committee against Torture in Detention to visit Imrali prison.

Therefore, apart from kidnapping and sham trial as two independent international crimes against Leader Ocalan and the Kurdish nation, the Committee for Defending the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan in NE, Syria puts the world in front of its responsibilities regarding what is happening in Imrali prison, of physical and psychological torture against Leader Ocalan as a result of isolation and dispossession. They single out the official international community, which remains silent on all the international crimes committed by the Turkish state against peoples, and the extent of their danger to freedom, democracy, and international peace and security.

The Committee for Defending the Freedom of Leader Ocalan in North and East Syria, which includes in its membership all lawyers in North and East Syria, as well as many political and human rights activists, as it initiates this statement in light of the perceived danger to the life of Leader Ocalan, reaffirms the association’s call The General Assembly of the United Nations, to return to its resolution issued on December 9, 1988 AD No. 43/173 containing the set of principles related to the protection of all persons subjected to any form of detention and imprisonment, and its other resolution issued on December 14, 1990 AD containing the basic principles for the treatment of prisoners, and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, which was adopted by its decision issued on December 10, 1984, No. 39/46.

In a bid to know the extent of prejudice to the strength of its decisions in this regard and how the gravity of this prejudice came as a bad result of a campaign of bad premises, the first of which is the Turkish state’s violation of Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights on February 15, 1999, by kidnapping the leader Ocalan from another country and the silence of the United Nations General Assembly on this violation, which prompted and continues to be a series of violations by the Turkish state against the leader Ocalan.

This requires immediately breaking this international silence, which was and still is contributing to commit  all violations of the Turkish state against Leader Ocalan, and to urgently send all the concerned committees to Imrali prison, especially the European Committee against Torture in Detainees, especially since the Turkish state has recently baptized to issue a package of penalties against the leader in his terrible cell in which there is no space for life and rights, exaggerating it in chauvinism and violation of rights and under the pretext of being satisfied with them for a period of six months, thinking that adopting this method will conceal from the world the reality of renewal and isolation against Leader Ocalan for both reasons and time. The real time of special and different isolation on Imrali prison since August 15, 1999 AD is fooling this world.

The Turkish state is still defying of the official international community, with its daily violation of public international humanitarian law and its violation of the leader Ocalan's right to freedom, thought and life, is the gateway to all violations of the Turkish state towards the rights protected by international law.

The Turkish occupation state imposes severe isolation on the leader, Abdullah Ocalan, as it did not allow his lawyers to meet with him during 11 years only 5 times, according to a previous statement of the Human Rights Office.
