Mitani calls on Kurds to learn from Halabja massacre

Bradost Mitani considered that the massacres of the Turkish occupation and its use of chemical weapons in the mountains of Kurdistan against Guerilla are not different from the massacre of Halabja, stressing that defensive force is the best solution to stop the massacres.

March 16 marks the 34th anniversary of the Halabja massacre in  Başûr (Southern Kurdistan), which killed 5,000 Kurdish citizens and injured thousands, after Saddam Hussein's regime bombed the city and neighboring villages with chemical weapons.

Speaking to our agency, Kurdish writer and historian Bradost Mitani linked Saddam Hussein's regime's use of chemical weapons against the Kurds in Halabja in 1988, and the Turkish occupation's use of chemical weapons against Guerilla in legitimate defense areas.

'They are devoid of human feelings and live on massacres'

Referring to the systematic violence practiced by the occupying and neighboring regimes of Kurdistan, since the use of chemical weapons in Halabja to the use of those weapons in the legitimate defense areas in Southern Kurdistan against guerrillas,   Mitani says, "They lack humanity and mercy, they are devoid of feelings and live on massacres and exterminations.  They are afraid of the freedom of peoples that threaten their thrones, so massacres are their only way to preserve the throne of their power, they try all forms of massacres, they bomb Kurdish cities and villages, they use everything to end the Kurdish existence, from suicide bombers to missiles, their regimes are dangerous for peoples because they have  dirty and violent weapons, including chemical weapons."

The Peoples Defense Forces had announced in the monthly outcome of the battles that the month of September last year witnessed the use of 157 chemical attacks by the Turkish occupation state during one month against it in the Medya legitimate defense areas in the mountains of Kurdistan.

On the 20th of September last year 2021, the Kurdistan Community  Union (KCK) called on the international community to hold the Turkish occupation state accountable for its crimes, and made it clear that it had been using chemical weapons and toxic gases for 5 months amid the silence of the United Nations, the European Union and the United States.

Military force and the defense of existence is the only solution to stop the massacres

Regarding this, Mitani says, "Turkey is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and it uses all its weapons against the Kurds and liberation forces, in front of the international community, the United Nations, the Security Council and human rights organizations. Turkey is destroying Kurdish villages and cities in n Northern and Southern Kurdistan with warplanes and prohibited weapons. It follow the example of Saddam Hussein, they used chemical weapons against the freedom fighters (guerrillas) in the mountains of Kurdistan, what is different from Halabja, they are trying to repeat these massacres, it is the same culture and mentality that these regimes enjoy.”

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons bans the use of these weapons, so a treaty was concluded under the administration of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), and entered into force in 1997, in addition to banning their production, stockpiling and use, as 193 countries adhered to this agreement, including the Turkish occupation state.

To stand in the face of these massacres and exterminations, Bradost pointed to the importance of military force and defense of existence, and that the Kurdish people stand face to face in front of brutal forces, and it is necessary to enjoy military power to protect their gains, as all fields such as health, education and culture mean nothing in the absence of force that prevents  These regimes commit massacres.

'divisions serve the enemies of the Kurds and mean more massacres'

Mitani considered, "The enemies of the Kurds have benefited from the cracks and schisms taking place between the Kurdish political circles, and the weakness of the Kurdish decision to commit the Halabja massacre, pointing out that the crisis of division is still in force, which opens the way for the occupying regimes of Kurdistan to follow the example of Saddam Hussein, and this is what is happening in the mountains of  Kurdistan against Guerilla.

The authority in Başûr did not learn the lessons from the Halabja massacre

In reference to the political, social and economic crises that Başûr is witnessing, Bradost Mitani stressed the need for political forces and government institutions to display a patriotic spirit and responsibility towards the Kurdish people, pointing to the large gap that occurred between political parties and society in Başûr (South Kurdistan), as a result of  the pursuit of power by these forces, the loss of the patriotic spirit, and the lack of patriotism by political figures.

Bradost Mitani added, "What the authority is experiencing in southern Kurdistan creates a clear impression, that the administration there has not learned the lessons from the Halabja massacre. We refer here to what is happening around the issue of electing a president in Iraq and the crisis that is rampant there, as well as the issue of the referendum and the loss of large areas, as well as what happened  in the  Şengal tragedy, they are all indications that we have not worked on our unity and the consolidation of the concept of patriotism, but unfortunately it seems that we have not learned the lesson."

Concerning the unity of the Kurdish ranks in Rojava, Mitani spoke, saying, "They do not give the matter a necessity. We witnessed great massacres in Rojava and we lost the Afrin, Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê areas, but were there reactions by the Kurdish political parties against the occupation operations, of course not,  Every party is linked to a party, they attack the Autonomous Administration and do not accept to join this administration. How can we say that we are evaluating the Halabja massacre while we are repeating the same mistakes.”
