​​​​​​​Roken Ahmed: The expansion of TEV-DEM General Council will include organizing at Syria level

Roken Ahmed, co-chair of Democratic Society Movement, confirmed that holding of their fourth conference in the current circumstances was a response to all the internal and external attacks against the regions of Kurdistan, and north and east of Syria, indicating that the decision to expand the movement's General Council will include the organizing at Syria level in general.

Yesterday, the fourth conference of Democratic Society Movement was held, under the slogan "Democratic culture develops through democratic institutions", at Aram Tigran Center for Culture and Art in Rmelan of Qamishlo Canton.

The conference was attended by about 400 members, in addition to representatives of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Council of Martyrs' Families in Jazira region, political parties, Syria Democratic Forces, Arabic-Kurdish Tribal Council, women's and youth organizations, and civil society organizations.

During the activities of the fourth conference, Ghareb Hasso and Roken Ahmed were elected as the new co-chairs of Democratic Society Movement.

Rocken confirmed that conference activities included many important discussions, and she said: "All the discussions that happened between us at the conference became a base for us to take important decisions related to the society, so that we can avoid all the obstacles and problems facing our civil institutions in the region, and build a future on the basis of the slogan "Democratic culture develops through democratic institutions".

And she continued, "Most of the discussions that happened among the participants in the conference shed light on organizing the civil institutions in a more democratic way, because they are considered a basis for protecting the values of society."

Roken Ahmed indicated that holding the conference at the current stage at a time when the regions of Kurdistan and NES are being attacked by Turkish state, and the continuation of sweep operation against ISIS mercenary cells by military and security forces, is a response to all internal and external attacks.

'Expanding the Movement's General Council will include the organizing at Syria level in general'

She explained, "Hasaka resistance become the main motive for us to continue the struggle, and despite all circumstances, we will always be able to come together to discuss developing our work and take decisions in order to protect our society from a military and social point of view."

Ahmed highlighted the decision approved by the conferees, which includes expanding the General Council from 64 to 80 members, and indicated: "In the past years, we were able to organize our institutions and our society more, and we established many institutions necessary for the society, the council were expanded to meet the requirements of the stage, and to expand the organizing at Syria level in general.

The conference concluded its activities by taking a number of organizational decisions, confirming the movement's determination to move forward in implementing its strategies as an effective institutional movement that enjoys a public base, working to liberate all occupied areas and ensuring the safe return of all displaced persons to their homes.

the conference stressed in its decisions, the struggle for leader Abdullah Ocalan freedom, and the support of people's initiative to remove the name of Kurdistan Workers' Party from "terror list".
