AANES - PYD members who are kidnapped by PDK

On June 10th, Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP security forces kidnapped the Autonomous Administration Representative, Jihad Hassan and Democratic Union Party PYD members Mustafa Khalil and Mustafa Aziz, while they were heading towards Erbil International Airport to receive guests, the kidnapped are diplomats and politicians representing Rojava (Western Kurdistan) and Autonomous Administration in Southern Kurdistan.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria sought to verify the fate of its representative and the two members of the Democratic Union Party, the PYD, but the Kurdistan Democratic Party did not explain the reasons and motives behind kidnapping.

The abduction of the representative of the Autonomous Administration and the Democratic Union Party drew a popular and Kurdish outcry, as it goes contrary to diplomatic protocols and customs, according to which politicians and diplomats should not be arrested without practical arguments and convictions.

Since very the first day of their abduction PYD, political forces, civil society institutions, the people of Southern Kurdistan and the Autonomous Administration have called for pressure on the PDK and international organizations to release their representatives, but up to date ilence prevails.

Jihad Hassan

Jihad Hassan, 35, is representative of AANES in Hewler, a native of the city of Kobani, who grew up in Raqqa, he is married and has 4 children, He holds a university degree (Philosophy Department) from the University of Lattakia, he came into prominence in Rojava during the ISIS attack on Kobani, he was settled in the city of Hewler since 2015, and has officially taken up residence.

He took up his duties at the Autonomous Administration Representative in May 2021, and is known as a national figure and from a family known for its patriotism. He worked for the Union of Young Democrats since the beginning of the revolution of July 19th, 2012, and was abducted at Erbil International Airport while on official duty to run a foreign delegation to Erbil Airport on June 10th.

Mustafa Osman Khalil

PYD member Mustafa Osman Khalil, 48, was born in Kobani, he has 6 children; He joined the Democratic Union Party in the city of Hewler in 2013. Since the very day of his affiliation up to date when he was abducted he used to be a very active member in the party. 

Mustafa Aziz Musati

Mustafa Aziz Miste, was born in the city of Kobani in 1971, he is father to 9 children, joined the PYD in 2013, has been a party member in Hewler since 2013. He is member of the PYD Political Representation in Hewler.

Up to date, the Autonomous Administration and the Democratic Union Party have not been informed about the reasons behind the kidnapping of their fellows and the KDP has not yet presented any legal argument about the reasons for that in contradiction of all relevant international laws and norms that protects diplomats and politicians against groundless accusations and if arrested or detained references to which they belong ought to be notified but it seems that this practice is not available in Southern Kurdistan.
