At dawn on June 25th, 2015, Kobani city's people woke up to the sound of bullets and horrific scenes of murder and bloodshed; It left behind a massacre that goes back to memory with June every year.

bloody dawn

On June 25th, 2015, dozens of ISIS/Daesh mercenaries were able to infiltrate the town of Kobani and the village of Berx Batan, 27 kilometers south of the city, and commit the most heinous massacre against its people.

233 civilians were martyred by this barbaric attack, including 27 from Berx Batan village, as well as 273 who were wounded by ISIS/Daesh mercenaries. Most of the victims were children, women and elderly.

The mercenaries killed all the unarmed civilians they encountered, raising fear and terror in the people, and those who lost their relatives and witnessed the massacre continue to see those dark scenes.

Moments of the Berx Batan Massacre

Mother Eida Baha al-Din from the Berx Batan village was the mother of a daughter and son before her daughter Jiyan lost her live ,13, years and her husband Mustafa Baha al-Din, 34, in the massacre of ISIS mercenaries in her village.

Mother recounts the events of that massacre: "At about four O'clock before dawn, we were waiting per-dawn meal because we were in Ramadan Month, eight cars came, I told my husband there were cars going down the dirt road, I think they were People's Protection Units YPG cars heading to Jazirah."

Mother Eida adds, "After 10 minutes, our neighbor came to invite my husband to go and tell Asayîş about these cars, and 10 minutes after my husband went, a car came and entered the village with more than 10 people; I thought it was an Asayîş car I explained to them what was going on. Before I got there, I knew they were Daesh/ISIS, and I screamed and rushed to my house. "

Eida mother grabbed her son's hand and took him to her uncle's house to protect him there, and her daughter Jiyan walked out of the house, headed towards her father's weapon and defended herself and her family.

Eida's mother came home with her aunt, who was injured, fell to the ground. While Eida was completed and she arrived home at her daughter's place to see that Jiyan resisted them with a weapon until her ammunition ended and she was hit in the neck. Mother Eida hid in a corner of her house, then fled towards her uncle's house. She was also shot and taken to the hospital by her husband's brother and his family.

After she got back from the hospital... I found out she'd lost 8 people in the family.
Eida returned home to discover that she had lost six people from her husband's family, including her daughter and her husband, who, when he returned to the village on hearing the sound of gunshots, was targeted by Daesh/ISIS mercenaries, and to know that she and her son remained only from her family.

Mother Eida concludes by confirming that mercenaries have committed the massacre and killed women and children in order to sow fear and terror in the people.

70 Martyrs

Mona Osman; She is the mother of two children from the neighborhood of Martyr Abdo, in the eastern part of the city, in which 70 civilians had been martyred during the massacre , another story about what she lived through that morning, which is still before her eyes in spite of the 6 years since the incident.

Mona lost her husband, Mustafa Mohammad Osman, 37, years old on that day, to narrate her story: "While we were waiting for Sarrin to be liberated, we didn't expect ISIS to infiltrate the city. When we heard the sounds of the bullets, we thought that the area of Sarrin had been liberated, so my husband went to the door of the house, and then I heard his screams and saw him shot, and my husband yelled at me, saying they were Daesh/ISIS.

Mona did not realize that they were shooting at her until she went to her husband and pulled him inside after two of the mercenaries entered the house and shot him while he was injured and lying on the ground to confirm that he had been killed, and then to get out of the house.

"They entered the houses and killed everyone in the houses."
Mona started yelling and appealing to her neighbors to come and save them, but to no avail, all the neighbors, knowing that ISIS/Daesh had entered the city, hid in their homes for fear of killing them.

And then, little by little, the noises and cries of women started to rise in the neighborhood from the neighbors, when I learned from Mona that the mercenaries had entered the houses and killed everyone in the houses at the time.

"Fearing the mercenaries would come back, I dragged my husband into the room, I'd give him water and talk to him so he wouldn't lose consciousness, and we stayed on that case for two hours until I felt my husband was gone."

Mona didn't expect to live after that accident, and she expected the mercenaries to come any minute to kill them that morning, sitting in front of her husband's body and blood coming from him to the door of the room, as she narrated.

Even though she saw her husband die, she convinced herself to come back and get him.

Mona then received a call from security forces and People's Protection Units to head east of the city as a safe zone free of ISIS mercenaries. She refused to leave until she took her husband with determination, the fighters entered her home and moved her to the village of Dawood Farm.

While Mona was heading with her two children on the run to the village of Dawood Farm, the bullets were heavily showered over us, and among our legs, I ran quickly behind my child to protect him, till arriving the village, seeing dozens of families barefoot of them in sleepwear, all of them left loved ones and headed towards the wilderness for fear of being killed by mercenaries.

Mona and her two children stayed three days in Dawoodd Farm Village and everyone tells her that her husband is alive, knowing that she saw her husband dead in front of her, but she was convincing herself to say it in the hope that she would come back from me and get her husband alive again.

"Black Day"
After three days, Mona returned home to receive her husband's body. The family went to the village to bury the body of Mustafa and his brother and son, to find out from me that she had lost not only her husband but also her brother and son, as well as two other relatives

Not only, Mona has lost dozens of her neighbours, as every family in that neighborhood tasted the pain of loss on that day that Mona called it Black Day, wishing that none of those moments and pain that she and her neighbours had lived through.

She explains that she noted that her features also changed after that accident, and not only her, but that all those who remained of those families were suffering from the aftermath of the massacre and that they had become a soulless body.
