Syria in general is suffering from an economic crisis as a result of the war being raged since 10 years, which inflicted great damage on various agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors, in addition to the sanctions imposed by the West, especially the Caesar Act, which came into effect in June 2020.

The areas of north and east Syria were not immune to these damages, as they are also subjected to an internal blockade through the closure of the internal crossings with this region by the Damascus government and the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation, in addition to its exposure to military, political and economic attacks continuously.

'Reasons for the weakness of the economy in the Autonomous Administration areas'

In this context, the economist Alaa Eddin Farhan believes that what the Autonomous Administration areas are witnessing at the economic level is due to several reasons, and he continued, saying: "The first and the most important reason is that the region is at war with the Turkish enemy that is striving to destroy what the Autonomous Administration has fulfilled of achievements at all levels.

The second one is the disproportionality between the cost-of-living, meaning "salary", and expenditures.

'Warning…'

The Economic expert Alaa Eddin Farhan ruled out that the economic crisis in the region is a result of the mistakes of the Autonomous Administration. He said, "These are not mistakes as much as they are external pressures aimed at thwarting the democratic society."

Farhan warned of external pressures and attacks on the region to thwart the Autonomous Administration project.

He stressed the need to hold the bribed people accountable and said: "Dealing with this disease must be by accountability, increasing supervision and raising the living standard for our society."

The Autonomous Administration is well aware of the seriousness of the deteriorating economic situation, so it has repeatedly raised the salaries of its employees, secured job opportunities in the region, as according to the responsible authorities, the number of its employees has reached more than 126,000 employees recently, and it has worked to open consumer associations to support some of the main foodstuff, and supported strategic materials such as bread and fuel through its institutions.

'Proposals to improve the economic reality'

To push the economic crisis from the region and contribute to achieving economic stability, the economist Alaa Farhan put forward some proposals for Autonomous Administration, and said: "The economic strategy that can save the region is to raise the standard of living for the region's residents, and to disclose the administration's current revenues and expenses, so that all matters would be dramatically clear."

He added, "The administration should pay attention to supporting agricultural projects, and not forget that our markets depend heavily on the farmer who depends heavily on the crop."

As for the industrial sector, Farhan believes that factories should be built that would achieve self-sufficiency for the people for prices to be reasonable and commensurate with the salaries and living conditions of the region.

In the third proposal, he pointed out that the administration tends to provide stipends to the people during this period, until a better strategic solution is found, because focusing on the unemployed is very important, especially the young group with university degrees.

We must focus on ration control''

Alaa Eddin Farhan said in this context: "High prices have become a major reason for the mismatch between salary and living reality. Therefore, there must be strong supply control, oversight and more comprehensive laws in order to put an end to price manipulation."

Autonomous Administration is able to find solutions''

In the conclusion of his speech, Alaa Eddin Farhan said that the economic crisis that the region is currently going through is temporary, the Autonomous Administration will be able to find solutions in a short time, and the administration will have economic plans to evade the region an economic famine."
