Fire broke out in the Homs refinery due to oil leak

A fire broke out in the distillation unit 100 in the Homs refinery, today, as a result of an oil leak from one of the pumps, according to what SANA agency of the Damascus government reported.

The director of the refinery said in a statement to SANA: "The firefighting teams are working to extinguish the fire, indicating that the fire did not result in any human damage."

In turn, the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Eng. Bassam Tohme, confirmed that the fire that broke out in the distillation unit 100 is under control and the fire has subsided by 90 percent.

Brigadier General Hassan Ammar, commander of the Homs fire brigade, explained that the fire was under control and now the cooling operations are complete amid no human losses.
