On Tuesday evening, the so-called National Defense mercenaries of the Damascus government forces targeted a checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces in Al-Wehda roundabout, south of Qamishlo, which led to the death of Asayish Qamishlo member "Khaled Mulhem Othman."

Commenting on this, the Co-chair of the Democratic Peace Party, Talal Mohammed, said to our agency: "The primary goal of the formation of mercenaries under the name of National Defense by the Baathist regime was to use them as a tool to destabilize security and stability in the region. These mercenaries continue to attack the checkpoints of the Internal Security Forces."

Talal Mohammed attributed the Damascus government's deliberate silence about what the mercenaries are committing in the region to "its unwillingness to show that it is responsible for National Defense."

He continued, "The practices committed by these mercenaries to destabilize security and stability and create sedition among the components of the region are definitely in the service and interest of the regime."

He went on to say: "There are parties that want to preserve the presence of these mercenaries in the region, to use them as a tool to destabilize security and stability, and to be the basis for spreading discord among the components."

Talal Mohammed affirmed, "We have been protecting the region for ten years, and we have been able to protect the compatibility among the components and protect the rights of these components."

He concluded, "All components in the region are brothers and sisters, and everyone from Kurds, Arabs and Syrians should not be drawn into the discords being fabricated by authoritarian regimes."
